The wall hanging is made using a rag rug technique with 4" (10 cm) long pieces of fabric prodded through a hessian background, giving a finished pile of just under 2" (5 cm). There is a great deal of surface texture with the ends of the fabric pieces forming whorls of many different colours and shades of red, orange, rust and blue. The fabrics used include wool, silk, denim, corduroy, cotton and synthetic mixtures. The fabrics are sourced from a variety of places including recycled clothing, auction finds, craft and fabric shops etc. Some have been over-dyed to achieve the correct colour. The approximate dimensions are 2' (61 cm) square by 2" (5 cm) deep. © Julia K Walton for Fire Horse Textiles 2008
