Leaf_in_the_river_large

This drawing, is inspired by Japanese sumi-e brush painting and kimono prints has multiple layers of meaning (kaona). The leaf is from the kukui nut tree (Aleurites moluccana). The kukui nut tree in Hawaiian culture symbolizes light, peace, knowledge, & protection - due to its many uses, practical, medicinal and ceremonial. The water, freeform like life & energy, with no end or beginning. Swirls represent new beginnings. The white space also symbolizes the zero point field or just being (the quiet stillness free of all the mind chatter). The leaf can also represent a person; head, arms, legs - floating "feet first" so you can land on your feet and see where you are going. The leaf is floating with the river, not of it - representing the spiritual being having an in body experience. We are here to enjoy the ride....
