The Crypt, a.k.a. the P.U.V. James Keeling (Open)
Wanted: 1 image
For: Online and Print
Ends: 30 September 2008
The Details
Create the P.U.V. James Keeling, a classified warship featured in the Scott Sigler novel THE CRYPT. It is nicknamed "The Crypt" for the estimated eighty percent fatality rate for all who serve a two-year tour.
The few eyewitness reports of the Keeling have described it as:
- Skeletal
- Predatory
- Copperish in color
- Organic
- Flexible
- Like diseased coral
- Segmented, insectile
- Covered in long spikes
The ship is rumored to have a crew of around 300 sailors, and carry 100 marines. An open space in the ship has "been utilized" as a flight deck for a squadron of fifteen standard fighters. Reliable reports claim it has three standard Class A and four Class B batteries. This same report claimed these weapons looked like they were "added on" to the hull. Other rumors claim the Keeling is capable of atmospheric flight and terrestrial landings.

The Reward: $250
1 winner will get prizes worth $250.
The winner gets mint-condition first-editions of Scott's books EARTHCORE and ANCESTOR, which are out of print. A signed hardcover of INFECTED in English, a hardcover of EARTHCORE in German, and INFECTED on audio CD.
The designer of the Keeling will be permanently credited as such, should the design be used for print illustration, podcast illustration, television, video games or motion pictures.
The goal is to make a ship so unique it will be a key visual icon of a scifi franchise, comparable to the Enterprise, the Galactica or the Millennium Falcon.
